Barbara’s Story

Barbara’s story

in the name of Jesus, go away…!

A few years ago Graham and I were on holiday in South Africa.

We were driving up the Garden Route when we spied a sign to a view spot overlooking Wilderness beach and the Indian ocean. We parked our car in a deserted car park and walked under the main road and come to the view.

Later when we were walking back to the car in the tunnel under the road a youth of about 16 years jumped out of the bush and started to grab Graham’s money belt. Not knowing if he had a knife Graham held on. Then the youth started to grab at my handbag slung over my body for safety sake. Bearing in mind we were each carrying our passports, bank cards and cash I decided he was not just going to rob us so easily and us have all the business of getting new documents etc. Without thinking I pointed an arm and hand at the youth and shouted “in the name of Jesus go away”. He immediately jumped back, as if I had shot him, apologised and ran off. We ran to our car post haste and motored on unscathed.

We were reminded of the words in James “Resist the devil and he will flee.” The most amazing thing was that it was not what I would have done in my own mind in such a situation. God just seemed to take over my arm and voice. We continued our journey unscathed rejoicing in the Lord’s protection over us.
