Scientists at the Lawrence Livermore laboratory in the USA have for the first time successfully produced more energy than they put in via nuclear fusion. In time this could lead to almost limitless energy for the world. It would be vastly cleaner in terms of carbon footprint than oil, gas or even current nuclear energy, which relies on nuclear fission and leaves radioactive waste that is dangerous for up to thousands of years.
