Jen’s Story

Jen’s story

God has led me to where I am today.

I’ve grown up going to church. I would go every Sunday to hear my Godmother preach and speak about God and the word of the Bible. This was how I came to know who he was and how he has a plan for me.

But it hasn’t been straightforward. My relationship with God has gone through doubts, but through the doubts he never let my left my side, he has always had my back. God was there on the day I was born, when I learned how to walk and how to talk. He was there when I learnt how to ride a bike and sing my first song. He was there on my first day of primary school and on the last day of secondary school.

But he wasn’t just there on the good days, he’s been there on the bad days as well. He was there when I broke my first bone and when I had my first argument. But he was also there on the day I lost my big sister and he is still here while I process that grief and confusion, and the doubt that it has left me with. But, through the words of Ecclesiastes, he has given me reassurance that there is a time to weep but also a time to laugh – and I’ve had my fair share of both over the years.

But no matter what has happened in my life he has been by my side every day for 17 ½ years. Through rain and sunshine, he has been there. Even when I doubted him, he’s been there. God has always had room for me. He’s been there every day. He knows how hard I’ve tried. He’s been a light in the dark; a guiding hand. He has been my lighthouse. God has led me to where I am today. He’s put friends in my path who I can chat to and who I can feel at home with. He’s led me towards adults that I can trust even though some of them knew the dinosaurs!

My relationship with God fuels my desire to serve and help others and I recently made a decision that I will never take back. I’ve spent most of my life asking, “What would Jesus do?”. And the truth in everything I know, everything I have learnt is that he would get baptised – because he did himself. So, I got baptised!
